Anyway, I have been playing with my new k1000 gear, scanning about 150 old (like, dating back to the 1860’s) family pictures, playing with the new photoprinter (Thank You My Love) and, this weekend, scanning, properly storing and ordering my film negatives.

The k1000 outfit is sweet. 2 bodies, glass from 28->2000 mm and I only have $300 into it (I have already gone over all that in prior entries…) I took some (I hope) nice shots on Tmax-100 that are being developed. If any of them don’t suck I will post them here (scans from negative)

Old Family pictures – yea, I scanned all these old pictures that have been in the family forever. Some of them are in pretty rough shape and I wanted to get good scans of them while it was still possible. 1200DPI and 24-bit color. I want to keep what we have now from getting any worse, but you never know what will happed to this sort of thing, so I have scanned each one front and back (the back of most of them have information…) and saved them as uncompressed TIFF’s. Im then making several sets of them and sending them around to people, one of these disks is going to be a cd with “normal sized” jpegs, slightly compressed, scaled to 300DPI and no more than 1024 on a side, that load and email quickly (300k->2meg range)

I have also been scanning all the negatives of my best film work, im not quite done with that yet, it took me a while to get all the settings right (and understand the software) so the first few rolls I did (with the installed, non-upgraded software) either didn’t scan well or the files didn’t save right. For now im just continuing on, I’ll go back and re-scan those later as I just tonight found several missing sets that had my best color stuff on it. I want to get that scanned and filed properly in archival storage sheets before it gets lost/damaged, the other rolls are safe until I get back to them.

Other than the obvious reasons for doing this, I want to get the stuff I have been having re-printed at the lab into a format that I can print at home with the new photoprinter I have, which does very nice prints from the S3 up to 8 1/2 x 11, so should do great with the 4800DPI negative scans I have been doing.

Anyway, once I get the family pictures project done, im gona get down to some serious posting here, but until them im going to work on that and getting the good stuff in fully ready to print condition (and exporting it to a web-friendly format). I will toss and pic up here now and then though, just to keep stuff fresh.

For now, a set of Moonrise shots i took of Short Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, moonrise was just after twilight. The wide-format shot is my desktop right now...
